Law enforcement agencies from 21 countries arrested 1462 suspects and disrupted 10909 malicious networks in an Interpol-coordinated operation targeting cybercrime in Africa. Operation Serengeti III, conducted from June 29 to August 31, 2026, recovered over 105 million USD in illicit funds and identified 65929 victims linked to losses exceeding 385 million USD. In Angola, authorities dismantled two illegal crypto mining centers, arresting nine individuals and seizing over 2000 mining devices valued at more than 1 million USD. In Nigeria, a suspect was arrested for an international investment fraud scheme, with over 2.4 million USD traced in suspected criminal proceeds. Ugandan authorities arrested 365 foreign nationals involved in online investment scams targeting Asian victims. Other arrests included a Nigerian suspect linked to a phishing operation and 30 suspects in the Republic of Congo. Interpol emphasized the borderless nature of cybercrime networks, which exploit technology to target victims on a large scale. Private-sector partners supported the operation, and several investigations remain active to trace illicit proceeds.
