Solana Alpen Glow Feature Activation Scheduled for September 28, 2026
The mainnet feature activation schedule for the Solana Alpen Glow upgrade has been proposed for September 28, 2026. This date is tentative and subject to change. Alpen Glow is an upgrade that changes the existing Tower BFT consensus to a voter-centric structure, aiming for a finality of about 150 milliseconds, while the current Tower BFT finality is approximately 12.8 seconds. There are reports of the discontinuation of support for Jump Crypto's Frankendancer, which is expected to coincide with the activation of the Alpen Glow mainnet in October 2026, although there is no official confirmation. Frankendancer is a hybrid validator client that combines the codes of Fire Dancer and Anza, and the structural changes in Alpen Glow may affect software compatibility. The Alpen Glow proposal SIMD-0326 includes provisions for transitioning the existing consensus to a voter-based model, maintaining the turbine protocol in the initial phase and introducing the rotor in subsequent phases. Validator votes are not recorded as on-chain transactions and are sent directly, with rapid finalization occurring if over 80% confirmation is achieved in the first vote. According to Anza's Agave v4.3 schedule, the request for converting 10% of the mainnet validator stake is set for September 8, the request for 25% conversion is scheduled for September 14, and the general introduction recommendation is planned for September 21. The currently confirmed schedule is for the feature activation to resume on September 28, and a separate announcement is needed regarding the discontinuation of Frankendancer support.
