Ripple Partners with Meritz Securities in South Korea, XRP Market Share Declines

Ripple has partnered with Meritz Securities to introduce Ripple Custody and tokenization tools in South Korea's capital markets. This marks Ripple's first securities firm partnership in the country. Despite this expansion, new Chainalysis data indicates that payment tokens like XRP are losing traction among Korean retail traders. Meritz is Ripple's fourth institutional partner in Korea this year, following Kyobo Life Insurance, Kbank, and Jeonbuk Bank. The partnership aims to enhance institutional-grade custody and tokenization as Korea's digital asset framework evolves. Meritz is also exploring spot ETFs, fractional investments, security tokens, and stablecoins. Fiona Murray, Ripple's managing director for Asia Pacific, emphasized Korea's dynamic digital asset market and institutional readiness. While Ripple's institutional partnerships grow, XRP's price has not strengthened, trading at 1.37, down 7.19% over the past week and 62% below its all-time high of 3.65. Chainalysis reports that retail traders are shifting focus from payment tokens to AI tokens, which have significantly increased their market share. Worldcoin led AI-token trading with 7.41 billion in volume over the year to June. XRP's trading volume on Upbit has also decreased, from 28.94 billion XRP in November 2024 to 3.54 billion XRP in September 2026, although it remains the top asset by 24-hour trading value on October 14, at about 80.5 billion won.
