Farcaster Acquired by Network School
Decentralized social network Farcaster has changed hands for the second time this year, with Network School acquiring Farcaster from Neynar. The transaction amount has not been disclosed. Neynar co-founder Rish stated that the decision to transfer the Farcaster application, protocol codebase, and related products to Network School was made because Farcaster's next phase requires a different operational model. Rish and another co-founder, Manan, will be leaving, while the remaining Neynar employees will join Network School to continue developing Farcaster. Neynar acquired the platform from Farcaster's original developer, Merkle Manufactory, earlier this year in January, a deal that also included the token issuance platform Clanker. Rish did not disclose any follow-up plans for Clanker; Farcaster hosts Adrienne and NourishProf indicated that Rish is considering splitting Clanker and looking for other buyers. An announcement within the Farcaster application indicates that the platform will be renamed "Network Nation Protocol," aiming to build a network composed of a voluntarily joined digital society, ultimately landing in the real world. Users will need to choose to accept or reject a "social smart contract," with acceptors receiving an on-chain access NFT as proof.
