Uniswap launches TJAR fee tool for fixed payment arbitrage
Uniswap introduced its Token Jar (TJAR) fee converter on Oct. 30, allowing traders to purchase accumulated fee tokens for a fixed payment. TJAR was opened to other applications on Oct. 29, with Robinhood already utilizing the system for fees collected via the Uniswap API, receiving USDC and USDG. Traders, known as searchers, exchange the required payment for fee assets held in an on-chain Token Jar, which sends the selected token to a configured destination. A Token Jar holds incoming assets, while a Releaser contract specifies the payment token, amount, and destination. Searchers pay the full release amount even when selecting only some assets, receiving the entire balance of each named asset, while unselected assets remain in the jar. The jar does not value its holdings, and no price oracle adjusts the payment automatically, meaning asset balances and market prices can fluctuate while the payment amount stays fixed. Searchers are incentivized to act when the recoverable value exceeds payment and execution costs, but competition can narrow profit margins. Uniswap's pricing explanation indicates that a lower release threshold allows jars to clear more frequently, reducing exposure to token-price movements, while a higher threshold can lead to longer waiting times for asset conversion. The optional protocol fee for TJAR is currently unset, controlled by the Uniswap DAO.
